Reduce Errors and Overall Installation Time with Pre-Wired Power Distribution Plates

Beyond the mounting system and antennas, almost every in-vehicle mobile data installation requires, at least, one DC power supply, shutdown timing device and a fuse block. Some set-ups require multiple power supplies or boosters… even modems. All of these power and networking devices need to be mounted somewhere inside the cab of the vehicle. The challenge is finding a suitable location where the devices won’t be damaged (kicked, exposed to elements, etc.) and the wiring won’t be accidentally snagged or ripped out. Not only is it time-consuming to mount and wire all of these components individually, but also by mounting them in safe, out-of-the-way locations (typically, under the seat or on the back wall of the cab), they are now harder to access for future troubleshooting purposes. Fully assembled installation power distribution plates (FAIPs) are a central mounting hub for ALL of these components. Using tube clamps, the FAIP secures […]

Work Truck Console a great solution for utility and field service customers

The majority of MOBILE MOUNTS’ customers use a pedestal system when mounting a laptop or tablet in their trucks. From the floor up, this standard system would include a vehicle base, pole, motion attachment and a docking station. However, for those projects where additional equipment, like radios, light controls and 12V convenience outlets, need to be mounted, or supplementary storage is required, a pedestal system is not ideal. This is where a Work Truck Console is a much better solution. In addition to providing a sturdy platform to mount a docking station, the Work Truck Console provides space to mount additional equipment near the front of the box, close to the dashboard, placing the controls within easy reach. Faceplates and filler panels are included to hide the wiring and to finish the appearance of the control heads. Furthermore, the Work Truck Console comes standard with a flip-up armrest, dual cupholders […]

Project management key for successful and on-time mobile data deployment

The concept of deploying mobile technology in fleet vehicles – thereby, maximizing field workforce productivity throughout the day – has been around for a couple of decades. Companies are increasingly savvy at knowing the issues and pitfalls when considering proper software application, device selection and connectivity. However, there is one aspect of a deployment that is often overlooked… how to manage the installation of the solution. Why is this a challenge? Because installing mobile data solutions requires synchronization across many levels. The product components that make up the solution, the myriad of fleet vehicles, and the installation labor required all need to converge on the same dates at the right locations for an efficient rollout. Managing a couple dozen deployments at one location may not be that complicated. However, managing several hundred vehicles spread out over dozens of sites is another story. Add in tight scheduling requirements, delayed product lead […]

Power distribution units vital to charging mobile data equipment

Vehicle Power Distribution Units (VPDU) and Accessory Power Distribution Units (APDU) are an important component for any laptop or tablet in-vehicle deployment. They protect the vehicle battery from over-discharge and shield sensitive electronics equipment from low and high voltage damage. In addition, they turn off electrical loads at a preset time after the vehicle engine is shut down, connect and fuse all electronic devices in one central place and feature a ground bus that provides a common point of connection for all grounds. Standard Vehicle Power Distribution Unit The original VPDU combines the function of a shut down timer and power distribution fuse block conveniently into one, protected box. Item No. MM-VPDU-1011 Vehicle Power Distribution Unit with Dual USB Output The standard VPDU plus dual USB output ports for convenient charging of mobile phones, digital cameras, select tablets and other USB-powered devices. Item No. MM-VPDU-1014 Accessory Power Distribution Unit The […]

Weather Pack connectors simplify wiring for power

MOBILE MOUNTS began offering Weather Pack connectors as an option on our Fully Assembled Installation Plates a few years ago to make the installation process for upfitters and our customers easier. Today, they are a standard feature on all FAIPs and installation wiring kits. So what exactly are Weather Pack connectors and why do we strongly advocate their use? Weather Pack connectors are an environmentally sealed connection system originally developed by Packard Electric engineers (now Delphi/Packard Electric Systems). Several auto manufacturers have used different varieties of this connector configuration for years because they’re designed to tolerate temperatures from -40° to +257° F degrees and provide a high level of resistance to water or chemical spray and dirt particles. This resistance is accomplished by incorporating self-lubricating silicone seals on each of the terminals (male and female). Further, these silicone seals are crimped to prevent contamination from entering next to the wire. […]
